I think most moms would agree that at a very young age (maybe even by 6 wks), you think to yourself, “what have I gotten into? How will make it doing this day in and day out without any ’breaks’? If she would just sleep through the night. If she would take two good naps a day--okay, maybe just one. If she would let me put her down. If she would just crawl/walk/talk. If she would just use the potty instead of going in her secret corner. If she would stop throwing that fit. If she would just stop talking for 5 minutes. If she would stop bossing her siblings around. When is kindergarten?”
And, then it’s the night before kindergarten and you find your eyes swelling with tears thinking, “I hope she gets scared tonight, so we can snuggle; those all-nighters at the beginning weren’t really so bad, they were very short-lived considering; cleaning up that accident could have been worse (ok, maybe not that sentimental); she has the most fun personality; I love watching her play dress-up, read books, play with her brother and sister, do her artwork, help me in the kitchen, tell me stories…”
It’s my kids growing up. It’s fun and exciting. It’s scary and unpredictable (which any control-freak like me can’t stand)! Some days are extremely slow and others fly by. But, it is fun and sanctifying. I’m so thankful the Lord has blessed me with 3 children to do this with (and a wonderful to husband whose in it with me)! And, because the Lord is the one who gave them to me and He is the one in control, I know this growing up “thing” will be good. My eyes are swollen with tears, but they aren’t just sad tears, they are happy tears and even excited tears.
If this is kindergarten, I can’t imagine the thoughts when college comes around.
